ABSTRACT:
Plant material enriched in secondary metabolites is produced in tissue culture under conditions that organogenically produce a proliferation of shoots and leafy material, and harvesting the leafy material and shoots while in a green, actively-growing, non-senescent stage. Of particular interest is plant material that produces alkaloids, especially material from poppy (Papaversp.) that will yield economically attractive levels of morphinane alkaloids, particularly thebaine.
