ABSTRACT:
As new antibacterial agent are provided cephalosporin derivatives having a general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group or a substituted lower alkyl group, R.sup.2 is a hydrogen atom or an ester-forming group easily cleavable by an esterase present in the digestive tracts, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 may be the same and each is independently a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a lower alkenyl group, hydroxyl group, amino group or a lower alkoxy group, and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
The cephalosporin derivative of formula (I) is useful as an orally or injectably administrable cephalosporin derivative which exhibits in combination a high antibacterial activity and a favorable characteristic capable of giving a high concentration of this compound in blood when administered.
