ABSTRACT:
A process is disclosed in which a waste gas containing sulfur compounds and carbon dioxide from pulp mill is contacted with an aqueous alkali solution derived from green liquor, white liquor or weak white liquor having low pH value and low sodium ion concentration and having been oxidized, whereby the sulfur compounds are absorbed as completely as possible with minimal absorption of carbon dioxide in the waste gas.
