ABSTRACT:
An optical device1has a substrate2, whereas bare fibers5exposed from a coated optical fiber tape3by removing a coating4from its middle part are secured to the upper face part of the substrate2. In the substrate2, a transverse groove8is formed obliquely with respect to an axis of the bare fibers5so as to traverse core parts5aof the bare fibers. An optical member9for reflecting a part of signal light transmitted through the bare fibers5is inserted in the transverse groove8. A support member10is provided on the upper side of the bare fibers5, whereas a support surface10aof the support member10is provided with photodetectors11for detecting light reflected by the optical member9. The support surface10aof the support member10is inclined with respect to the upper face of the substrate2, whereby the light entrance surface13of each photodetector11is inclined by a predetermined angle with respect to the upper face of the substrate2. Such a configuration realizes an optical device which can lower the polarization dependence of received light in the photodetectors.
