ABSTRACT:
A mutant strain ofFrancisella tularensishas attenuated virulence and has a mutation in the gene coding for a putative peroxynitrite resistance protein A (prpA) which prevents normal function of the protein. The mutant is useful as a vaccine against type A and B virulent strains ofF. tularensis, and is produced by obtaining a virulentF. tularensisstrain and mutating the gene, FTT0918, that codes for prpA.
