ABSTRACT:
A locking and detent mechanism for a notebook computer and a docking station, that allows the user to securely engage, disengage, and eject the notebook computer from the docking station by operating a single control feature, the handle bar. The present invention also allows the user to accomplish the above tasks with little effort, little dexterity, with a high degree of stability, and without requiring that the device be plugged in. The device consists of clusters of parts installed within the docking station, including the handle mechanism, the push-slide mechanism, the lever mechanism, the locking mechanism, and the ejecting mechanism, where the handle mechanism is at an opposite end of the device from the locking mechanism. The mechanical engagement/disengagement of the notebook computer from the docking station is accomplished simultaneous to the electrical engagement/disengagement, simplifying the procedure for the user. A safety detent mechanism prevents the inadvertent disengagement of the notebook computer from the docking station by preventing the inadvertent pivoting of the handle bar.
