The invention relates to a liquid-crystalline medium based on a mixture of polar compounds of negative dielectric anisotropy which comprises at least one compound of the formula Iin which R11and R12, ring A, Z, a, L1and L2are as defined in claim 1, and the use thereof for an active-matrix display based on the ECB effect.
