ABSTRACT:
A thermal ink jet recording paper, incorporating dewatered and milled precipitated calcium carbonate (“PCC”) is disclosed. Precipitated calcium carbonate is dewatered and milled in the presence of an amphoteric or anionic dispersant to produce a high solids PCC composition. When used in coating formulations the PCC has a surface morphology and chemistry that enhances the printability of ink jet paper. Ink jet recording paper incorporating the PCC of the present invention has reduced ink feathering and spreading as well as improved optical density, dry time, and water fastness.
