ABSTRACT:
Hydroxy-substituted phosphoranes and salts thereof represented by Formulae I and II ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are the same or different members of the group consisting of lower alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl, and ##STR2## wherein q is an integer from 0 to 4 and Y is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl and lower alkoxy; R.sub.4 can be hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 straight or branched chain alkyl; the sum of n+m=3-5; R.sub.5 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 are the same or different members of the group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl, and ##STR3## p is an integer of 0 or 1; and X is an anion. The compounds are useful as intermediates for the heterocyclic phosphonium salts disclosed and claimed in U.S. Pat. No. 4,075,407. An improved process for preparing the phosphonium salts of U.S. Pat. No. 4,075,407 is also provided by the present invention.
