ABSTRACT:
In order to obtain a more uniform sheet-like glass fiber product, it has been discovered that the use of a treating formulation having phosphate esters of polyoxyalkylene alkyl alcohol, polyamine compound, organic acid with glass fibers gives a more uniform aqueous dispersion of glass fibers. The treating formulation can be added to the aqueous solution to which the glass fibers are to be dispersed and then the more uniform aqueous dispersion of glass fibers is conveyed to a separator to produce the more uniform sheet-like glass fiber product from the aqueous dispersion and the aqueous dispersion is recyled to disperse fresh glass fibers. Also, the treating formulation can be present by itself on glass fibers that are in a wet condition. In addition, the treating formulation can be present on glass fibers that are in a dry condition when the treating formulation is applied to the glass fibers from a sizing composition containing the treating formulation and a film-former.
