Cumene hydroperoxide is decomposed to phenol and acetone using a Lewis acid catalyst of the group tungsten hexafluoride, silicon tetrafluoride, stannous chloride, stannic fluoride, antimony pentachloride, sulfur monochloride and sulfur tetrafluoride.
