ABSTRACT:
Novel nitrone compounds of the following formula are provided ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 may be the same or different and represent an alkyl group, an aryl group or a hydrogen atom, R.sup.4 to R.sup.8 may be the same or different and represent an alkyl group, a hydrogen atom or a carboxyl group provided that at least one of R.sup.4 to R.sup.8 is a carboxyl group, X represents an alkoxy group of the formula, R.sup.9 O--, wherein R.sup.9 represents an alkyl group, a dialkylamino group of the formula, R.sup.10 R.sup.11 N--, wherein R.sup.10 and R.sup.11 may be the same or different and represent an alkyl group, or a hydrogen atom, and n is a value of 0, 1 or 2. A contrast enhanced material comprising the nitrone compound is also provided, which is able to enhance a contrast when exposed to light having a wavelength of 300 to 450 nm.
