An air bag for motor vehicle use is made of a synthetic fabric, particularly a polyamide, with a extremely tight weave, which is shrunk, heat set, and calendered at a temperature between 60.degree. and 225.degree. C., a pressure between 10 and 100 t, and a calendering speed between 5 and 25 m/min.
