ABSTRACT:
An aerofoil1includes cooling channels2, 3, 4, 5with transfer passages8between adjacent channels2, 3, 4, 5. In normal operation, the constriction in each cooling channel2, 3, 4, 5ensures direct through coolant airflow in the direction of arrowheads A. However, when a channel4is blocked by a blockage9airflow in adjacent channels2, 5is forced through the transfer passages8in order to provide airflow in the blocked channel4and facilitate cooling. This blocked channel airflow is in the direction of arrowheads B. Generally, the cross-section of the transfer passages8is determined for conformity with the outlet7cross-section of the channel4in order to achieve substantial coolant flow balance across the coolant channels2, 3, 4, 5of the aerofoil1.
