ABSTRACT:
A process is disclosed for preparing aromatic-substituted unsaturated amides. The process comprises treating a compound of the formula ##STR1## where Ar is C.sub.6 to C.sub.10 aryl unsubstituted or substituted with at least one halo, amino, nitro, hydroxy, C.sub.1 to C.sub.12 linear or branched alkyl, C.sub.1 to C.sub.12 linear or branched alkoxy or haloalkyl, the alkyl moiety being C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 linear or branched or the group ##STR2## where Ar' is C.sub.6 to C.sub.10 aryl unsubstituted or substituted with at least one halo, amino, nitro, hydroxy, C.sub.1 to C.sub.12 linear or branched alkyl, C.sub.1 to C.sub.12 alkoxy or haloalkyl, the alkyl moiety being C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 linear or branched; and R and R' are the same or different and are hydrogen or C.sub.1 to C.sub.12 linear or branched alkyl and can also be phenyl unsubstituted or substituted with at least one halo, amino, nitro, hydroxy, C.sub.1 to C.sub.12 linear or branched alkyl, C.sub.1 to C.sub.12 linear or branched alkoxy or haloalkyl, the alkyl moiety being C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 linear or branched, with an inorganic dehydrating agent.
