ABSTRACT:
A press roll is disclosed for removing water, the press roll provided in the press portion of a paper machine. The press roll has a metal base and a sprayed coating provided on the outer surface of the metal base, at least the outer layer of the sprayed coating being a sprayed mixture of a plastics and at least one of a ceramics and a cermet. The outer surface of the plastic portion of the sprayed coating has a lapped, depressed surface relative to the outer surface of the ceramic or cermet portion.
