ABSTRACT:
A process for preparing an aromatic polycarbonate of controlled molecular weight which comprises interfacially reacting in water and an organic solvent, a dihydric phenol, a carbonate precursor and a molecular weight controlling effective amount of a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein n is an integer having a value of from 0 to 5 inclusive; Y is a halide or hydroxyl; and each R is independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl radicals, aryl radicals, alkaryl radicals, aralkyl radicals, alkoxy radicals, aryloxy radicals, halides, ##STR2## radicals wherein R.sup.2 is selected from hydrogen, alkyl radicals or acyl radicals or R.sup.3 is an acyl radical or --C.tbd.N. The polymers are useful in injection molded articles.
