ABSTRACT:
A p-substituted halobenzene derivative, which is very valuable in industry, can be obtained by halogenation of benzene and/or a benzene derivative in a liquid phase at a temperature of 0.degree. to 200.degree. C. at a higher selectivity and yield than in known processes, using, as a catalyst, an L type zeolite alkali-treated with an alkali solution of pH 11 or above at a temperature of 0.degree. to 100.degree. C. for 0.5 to 100 hours.
