ABSTRACT:
This invention relates to an improvement in a process for producing ethanol by methanol homologation. The homologation is carried out by reacting methanol with hydrogen and carbon monoxide in a 1-2:1 mole ratio and a temperature of from about 175-230.degree. C. and a pressure of 2,000-10,000 psig in the presence of a cobalt catalyst represented by formulas I and II. ##STR1##
