ABSTRACT:
Certain 6,7-dihydro-8-(imidazol-1-yl)-1-oxo-1H,5H-benzo[ij]quinolizine-2-carboxyli c acids are disclosed as potent antimicrobial agents with an unusual spectrum of activity. Esters, acyl chlorides, alkylaminoalkyl ester salts, salts of a nitrogen atom of the imidazole ring, and pharmaceutically acceptable carboxylate salts are also disclosed. Novel synthetic intermediates are also described.
