ABSTRACT:
A recording medium from which recorded information is reproduced by irradiating a read-out light, including an information recording surface and a plurality of information recording surface and a plurality of information pits formed on the information recording surface. The information pits are formed by fine diffraction gratings having a grating constant (d) less than one half of the wavelength (.lambda.) of the read-out light. The free diffraction gratings have a plurality of grating directions, each of the plurality of grating directions corresponding to the information to be recorded.
