The invention relates to the method of preventing and treating sepsis using (S)-5-oxo-L-prolyl-L-.alpha.-glutamyl-L-.alpha.-aspartyl-N.sup.8 -(5-amino-1-carboxypentyl)-8-oxo-N.sup.7 or in conjunction with an anti-infective agent.
