ABSTRACT:
A strander for generating a multi-strand cable including at least one pay-off station which is spaced radially from a common rotational axis along which the cable is formed. Each station includes a reel for paying-off a strand to be used in the cable, and each reel s disposed with its axis in a plane normal to a radial line from the common axis. Furthermore, each pay-off station includes a mechanism for causing the axis of the reel to rotate in the plane normal to the radial line. A stabilizer mechanism is provided for a flywheel disposed coaxially with the product reel, and a torque differential device is coupled to be driven by the reel and to drive the flywheel in a direction opposed to the rotational direction of the reel, wherein any change in the angular momentum of the reel is opposed by a change in the angular momentum of the flywheel.
