ABSTRACT:
A novel process for producing highly crystalline, fine .alpha.-alumina is disclosed. Aluminum hydroxide is calcined in the presence of fine silica powder. The obtained alumina is in the alpha form and has a specific surface area of least 10 m.sup.2 /g.
