ABSTRACT:
A splicing device for packaging webs comprises a dual magazine shiftable between an on-line position and a stand-by position. Both magazines can hold a web. When the web held in the on-line position is exhausted, the magazine is shifted and the web from the stand-by position can be used while the exhausted web is replaced. A joining unit is provided for each magazine to connect the end of an exhausted web with the end of a new web. A cutting unit is positioned at the on-line position for cutting a web in use whereby a new web may be joined thereto in an aligned manner. A feeding unit is provided upstream of the cutting unit and includes a crease wheel for feeding and folding the web. Another cutting unit is provided upstream of the feeding unit for severing the web in desired package lengths. The splicing device enables rapid joining of webs with a minimum of labor.
