ABSTRACT:
Cyanopyridines of the formula ##STR1## are prepared by reacting acrolein and an alkanal ##STR2## or its acetal or ketone of the formula ##STR3## where R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 may be identical or different and are each hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms or aryl and R.sup.4 is alkyl and n is 0-11, with ammonia in the presence of a zeolite as a catalyst. The reaction is preferably carried out in the gas phase.
