This invention relates to a process for producing a fluorinated ester containing a trifluoromethyl group by esterification in the presence of .gamma.-butyrolactone as a solvent, and more particularly a process or producing a fluorinated ester containing a trifluoromethyl group which is useful as a raw material of various fluorine containing compound.
