ABSTRACT:
Production of ethanol using a strain of xylose-utilizingZymomonaswith a genetic modification of the glucose-fructose oxidoreductase gene was found to be improved due to greatly reduced production of xylitol, a detrimental by-product of xylose metabolism synthesized during fermentation.
