ABSTRACT:
Mechanical parts of ferrous alloys are provided with a coating consisting essentially of FeSn.sub.2, FeSn and FeSnC.sub.x with x ranging from 0.7-1.3 by holding the part to be treated in an oven at a temperature ranging from 400.degree. to 700.degree. C while the gaseous atmosphere inside the oven is comprised of a mixture of a vapor of a tin halide and a reducing gas.
