ABSTRACT:
A battery pack13(FIG.2) comprises an elongated cylindrical, metal casing35,a plurality of cells41, 43in casing35and three coaxial pack terminals46, 54, 61.For enhanced convenience, pack terminals46, 54, 61are electrically connectable in a cordless device11regardless of the angular orientation of the pack13about casing axis33.To reduce cost and increase durability, pack13has no welded connections and will permit high current discharge rates. Cells41, 43are electrically connected but are mechanically disconnected. A spring73engages cell41and biases cells41, 43tightly together in compression to form good, low resistance electrical contact between cells41, 43,casing base cap45and top53.To provide a pack with two output voltages, the third pack terminal61has a polarity (relative to first pack terminal46) the same as second pack terminal54and is electrically connected to the cell can terminal43bof forward cell43,thereby electrically by-passing cell43.
