An object of the invention is to provide an organic electroluminescent element with high luminance and long half life and a display employing the organic EL element.An organic electroluminescent element comprising a component layer including at least one light emission layer capable of emitting phosphorescence, wherein the component layer contains at least one specific carbazole derivative.
