ABSTRACT:
A dual stage inflator10utilizes a housing12having two laterally oriented propellant chambers20and22. A perforated divider18provides lateral separation between chambers20and22, and facilitates fluid communication between chambers20and22when both chambers are operated. Upon inflator10operation, the first chamber20is activated operatively independent of the second chamber22, and if desired, the second chamber22may be activated simultaneously or sequentially with chamber20. The aforementioned design provides simplified manufacturing with equivalent or enhanced structural integrity relative to known inflators.
