ABSTRACT:
The methods and apparatus100disclosed herein are of use for sequencing and/or identifying nucleic acids230, 310. Nucleic acids230, 310containing labeled nucleotides235, 245, 315may be synthesized and passed through nanopores255, 310. Detectors257, 345operably coupled to the nanopores255, 310may detect the labeled nucleotides235, 245, 315. By determining the time intervals at which labeled nucleotides235, 245, 315are detected, distance maps140for each type of labeled nucleotide235, 245, 315may be compiled. The distance maps140in turn may be used to sequence150and/or identify160the nucleic acid230, 310. In different embodiments of the invention, luminescent nucleotides235, 245or nanoparticles315may be detected using photodetectors257or electrical detectors310. Apparatus100and sub-devices200, 300of use for nucleic acid230, 310sequencing150and/or identification160are also disclosed herein.
