ABSTRACT:
A glass member for use in a cathode ray tube is provided, which can facilitate the heating and softening of glass during sealing and raise the productivity without decreasing the mechanical strength of the product by improving the shapes of the seal end faces of the panel and funnel. In an edge area between an edge of the seal end face of each side part of the glass member for use in the cathode ray tube comprising a glass panel or a funnel and a position about 5 mm away along a tube axis from the edge, a thin edge part is formed to have a thickness decreasing part. The rate of thickness decreasing thereof toward the edge is larger than that of a standard shape in a root area adjacent to the edge area. Also, the thin edge part is formed so that an inequality of 0.3≦t1/t0≦0.7 is satisfied where t1is a thickness at a position 1 mm away along the tube axis from the edge, and t0is a thickness at a position 5 mm away along the tube axis from the edge.
