ABSTRACT:
A compensating roll assembly for flexible web material, the roll assembly comprising a central axle member and two end axle members fixed one to each end of the central axle member, support rings disposed around the end axle members, spools disposed on the support rings and the central axle member, roll surface material disposed upon the spools and adapted to engage the web material, and mechanisms disposed within the end axle members to automatically move the support rings during a rolling operation to cause movement of the surface material to maintain substantially constant pressure on the web material by the roll surface material.
