The invention relates to new 2-(2,3-dihydro-2-oxo-3-benzofuranyl)acetic acid compounds of general formula I: ##STR1## in which: R.sub.1 denotes a hydrogen atom, a linear or branched alkyl radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a phenyl radical optionally substituted with a halogen atom or with an alkoxy radical containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms or an alkyl radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms,
