A selective gas separation membrane comprising a fumaric diester polymer having a repeating unit represented by the following general formula (1): ##STR1## wherein X and Y are each independently an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, trialkylsilylalkyl or siloxane-containing alkyl group.
