Optically active dopants of the formula ##STR1## wherein C* denotes a chiral carbon atom and R.sup.1 signifies C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 -alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 -alkenyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 -alkoxycarbonyl or C.sub.3 -C.sub.12 -alkenyloxycarbonyl, their manufacture, liquid crystalline mixtures which contain such dopants and their use for optical or electro-optical purposes.
