ABSTRACT:
An abrasive particle and method are provided for cleaning and rust-proofing steel prior to painting by subjecting the steel to abrasion with abrasive particles coated with a binder such as a synthetic resin which is compatible with the paint to be applied, and a corrosion resistant salt which has a solubility of not more than 20 grams per liter in water at 20.degree. C. The corrosion resistant composition is deposited on the steel surface as it is abraded.
