ABSTRACT:
The antibiotic and antimycotic compound, herbicolin, is prepared from a strain of Erwinia herbicola by aerobic cultivation. Herbicolin consists of two chromatographically separable components, herbicolin A and herbicolin B. The compound of the invention has been characterized by IR spectra, solubility data, elemental analysis, characteristic reactions, UV absorption, detectable amino acids and fatty acids, C-13-NMR spectra and R.sub.f values. The herbicolins may be formulated into appropriate pharmaceutical preparations including pharmaceutically acceptable carriers or diluents.
