A dye-receiving element for thermal dye transfer comprising a support having thereon a polymeric dye image-receiving layer containing a polycarbonate having a T.sub.g from about 40.degree. C. to about 100.degree. C. and having the following formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each independently represents hydrogen, methyl or ethyl;
