ABSTRACT:
The present invention provides a novel type II restriction endonuclease obtainable from Arthrobacter species. The endonuclease known as Asc I, recognizes the following nucleotide sequence and has a cleavage point indicated by the arrows: ##STR1## Also described is a process for obtaining Asc I from Arthrobacter species.
