ABSTRACT:
A method of producing a support for a planographic printing plate which comprises roughening a surface of an aluminum plate electrochemically, etching the surface by 0.01 to 20 g/m.sup.2 with alkali, and roughening the surface electrochemically in an electrolytic solution containing hydrochloric acid and/or a water-soluble hydrochloride salt which forms hydrochloride ion or nitric acid and/or a water-soluble nitrate salt which forms nitrate ion as the principle component.
