Specific halogenated phenylbenzenesulfonamide compounds such as 2-chloro-N-[(4,6-dimethoxypyridmin-2-yl) aminocarbonyl]-6-phenylbenzenesulfonamide and 2-chloro-N-[(4-methoxy-6-methylpyrimidin-2-yl)aminocarbonyl]-6-phenylbenze nesulfonamide display excellent herbicidal utility for the selective control of weeds in rice.
