A process to produce a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are selected from the group consisting of the groups C.sub.2 H.sub.5 OOC--, CH.sub.3 OOC-- and N.tbd.C--, with the limitation that R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 cannot both be N.tbd.C--, Y is hydrogen or halogen and X is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen halogen and nitro
The compound is useful as an intermediate in the production of imidazobenzodiazepines, compounds having pharmacological activity.
