ABSTRACT:
A card processing apparatus includes a pivotal member. The pivotal member pivots upon being pressed by the leading end portion of a card inserted through a card insertion port when the leading end portion of the card is inserted to a predetermined insertion depth, the leading end portion of the card is clamped between the pivotal member and an intermediate plate so that the card is locked to be unable to pivot in an opposite direction. A card pressing member is biased to pivot in such a direction that its pressing end portion separates from contact terminals. When the pivotal member pivots in an inserting direction upon insertion of a card, the card pressing member is pressed by the pivotal member to pivot in such a direction that its pressing end portion comes near the contact terminals. In the locked state, the pressing end portion presses the card from the lower surface side to cause external terminals to come into tight contact with the contact terminals. When the leading end portion of the card is removed from a portion between the intermediate plate and the pivotal member, the locked pivotal member is released immediately, so that the card can be removed at a constant speed. The read operation of magnetic information on the card is stabilized without causing an abrupt change in removal speed when removing the card.
