ABSTRACT:
A system is provided for communicating high bandwidth data from a remotely operated semi-submersible vehicle to a mothership surface vessel. The data transmitted from the remotely operated vehicle is blocked and coded to improve the accuracy of the transmission. The remotely operated vehicle contains a large buffer for temporarily storing hydrophone data until it has been transmitted and acknowledged by the mothership. Each transmitted block is acknowledged by the mothership when it has been correctly received. Incorrect or missing acknowledgment signals indicate that some type of interference or outage has occurred in the communications channel. In such an event, the remotely operated vehicle can continually resend the recently transmitted data until receipt of correct acknowledgment signals indicates that the communications channel has been restored.
