ABSTRACT:
Monoethylenic monomers, including from about 1 to about 30% by weight of monoethylenic carboxylic acid, are placed in solution in a liquid mixture preferably containing a low molecular weight polyhydric alcohol and an anionic surfactant and this liquid mixture is dispersed in water containing a C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkanol and polymerized in the presence of an organic peroxide free radical polymerization catalyst at an elevated temperature, while agitating the dispersion. The dispersion of polymer particles is then at least partially neutralized, preferably with ammonia or an amine, to form an aqueous dispersion which is stable and which is useful in electrocoating.
