ABSTRACT:
An intake manifold device for an internal combustion engine that has an engine body with an intake port connected to an intake valve port which is openable and closable by an intake valve operatively coupled to a valve operating mechanism capable of varying the intake valve operation between low and high speed operation. The intake port is connected to an intake chamber through a first intake passageway which has a length and a cross-sectional area for a low-speed range and through a selectively openable and closable second intake passageway which is openable in a high-speed range. Independently characterized in openable and closable on/off valve are disposed respectively in upstream and downstream ends of the second intake passageways. The on/off valves and intake valves operating mechanism are selectively operated for maximizing the torque output of the engine over a wide range of speeds.
