ABSTRACT:
Provided by the present invention is a process for the biocatalytic synthesis of optically pure sphingosines from achiral starting material. The stereoisomers of sphingosine are prepared from chiral arene diols using stereospecific reaction techniques to obtain the desired sphingosine or derivative thereof.
